The IMF is concerned about the increase in the minimum wage in Ukraine
In Ukraine there are no opportunities to increase the minimum wage, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This opinion was expressed by the representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Ukraine Josta Ljungman.
“The restoration of fiscal discipline in 2016-17 and the gradual reduction of public debt were significant achievements in the context of the IMF-supported reform program,” Ljungman said.
According to him, it is important to adhere to these basic rules in the future, since the still significant public debt remains a significant factor of vulnerability.
“We are concerned about the increase in spending pressure against the backdrop of what we believe are too optimistic budget revenue forecasts. Given this, we do not see fiscal space to increase budget expenditures in 2018,” the IMF representative added.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Pavel Rozenko announced that the minimum wage would be increased to UAH 4100, taking into account the economic results of the first quarter of 2018.
Before this, Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman stated that in 2018 the minimum wage could increase by 500 UAH, to 4200 UAH.
According to forecasts of the Ministry of Economic Development, by 2021 in Ukraine the minimum wage may rise to UAH 6200.
