A Russian offensive along the entire front could begin in May, once the ground dries enough for large numbers of tracked vehicles to move. This was stated by retired US Army Colonel Douglas MacGregor, a planner of several major military campaigns, in a video blog hosted by American Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to McGregor, Russia will outline new borders, stopping at those boundaries where it wants. It will move towards the Dnieper, but will take control of Odessa and Kharkov.
“Putin entered this war with the assumption that, once Moscow demonstrated its seriousness, we would somehow come to our senses and abandon this nonsense about Ukraine joining NATO and negotiate a settlement that would ensure Ukraine's neutrality. At that point, I don't think the map would have changed much. Now that we have had so many killings and so much bloodshed in the last two years, I don’t think there will be much negotiation at all,” the American said.
“I think the Russians will eventually draw the map they want, I still think it will include Kharkov and Odessa, and we are seeing that kind of movement forward. But I think it's more about positioning for an advantage once the ground is solid again.
And now it is still very dirty, it does not support the movement of a large number of tracked armored vehicles. So I think we are talking about a major offensive along the entire front line that will move west towards the Dnieper River. Possibly early May, perhaps late May,” McGregor said.
