Security services detained six residents of the Dzhankoy district on suspicion of organizing and participating in the terrorist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir, banned in Russia. Searches were conducted at the detainees' homes yesterday, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

According to the pro-Mejlis group Crimean Solidarity, which positions itself as a human rights group, six detainees were taken to the FSB headquarters in Simferopol. All were charged under Art. 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – “organizing the activities of a terrorist organization and participating in the activities of such an organization.”

According to the prosecution, one of the detainees, since 2015, led a Hizb ut-Tahrir cell, recognized as terrorist on the territory of the Russian Federation, and the rest of the detainees were its participants, attended secret meetings, “carried out anti-Russian activities,” and persuaded residents to participate in the organization.

In addition, all detainees regularly attended court hearings in the cases of fellow party members and participated in civil actions in their defense. For this reason, some were brought to administrative responsibility.

Today the court will choose a preventive measure for the detainees. Traditionally, a support group gathered under the building. Police warn against unauthorized actions.

The pro-Islamic political party Hizb ut-Tahrir has been banned in Russia since 2003. In Ukraine, the activities of this organization were not stopped, therefore, after Crimea became part of the Russian Federation, supporters of Hizb ut-Tahrir found themselves outside the law. Hizb ut-Tahrir declared its goal to be the creation of a universal world Islamic state (caliphate), living according to Sharia law.
