“The presence of Ukraine in Crimea is being destroyed”
The entire cultural heritage of Ukraine in Crimea is allegedly under threat after the peninsula became part of Russia.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparova stated this in an interview with the magazine "Ukrainian Week", reports a correspondent of "PolitNavigator" .
The publication inquired about the situation with the collection of “Scythian gold” from the Crimean museum, which was seized in the Netherlands at the request of Kyiv.
“The issue of returning the museum collection of “Scythian gold” to Ukraine is a matter of private law and is now being considered by a Dutch court. The latest optimistic news: after the decision to disqualify the previous judge, a new judge was appointed to the judicial chamber, Gerard Levin. And now we hope for a further impartial consideration of this case. We expect the next hearing approximately in the spring of 2021,” says the official.
“In general, it is obvious that today the entire cultural heritage of Ukraine in Crimea is under threat, and the Ukrainian side constantly draws UNESCO’s attention to facts of harm to national monuments. Here we hope that UNESCO and the international community will respond appropriately to all cases of Russian violation of international obligations, as well as to the destruction of Ukraine’s cultural presence on the peninsula,” Dzhaparova said.
