The Kremlin warned that American senators are asking for serious problems
In relation to Russia, American senators planning to introduce a new package of anti-Russian sanctions are going too far, and therefore in Moscow they reserve the right to reconsider a number of previously assumed international obligations.
A source close to the Kremlin told Nezavisimaya Gazeta about this .
“If unproven interference in American elections gives them the right to cause economic damage and a blow to the level of well-being of the people, then one should not be surprised if Russia develops measures in response, including military and strategic ones, that could lead to irreparable losses for the economy and incomes Americans. I would not be surprised if in the near future Russia reconsiders a number of its international obligations taking into account the changed international situation,” the publication’s interlocutor said.
He added that certain obligations were always taken in a certain international legal context.
“As the context changes, so do the obligations. This is being demonstrated to the whole world today by the United States, which daily abandons its international responsibilities, including in the area of control over the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons (the Iran deal), as well as in the area of tariff and non-tariff protectionism in trade,” the source added.

The project, called the Defending American Security from Kremlin Aggression Act of 2018 (DASKAA), is designed to “increase economic, political and diplomatic pressure on the Russian Federation in response to ongoing Russian interference” in the American electoral process, “detrimental influence in Syria,” “ aggression in Crimea,” was proposed last week by a bipartisan group of senators.
According to one of the authors of the document, Republican Lindsey Graham, the goal is “to change the status quo and introduce crushing sanctions and other measures against Putin’s Russia.”
