"An arms race is already in full swing in space," says a Russian intelligence officer.
There are already a huge number of seemingly peaceful satellites in outer space, which, in fact, operate in the interests of the Armed Forces.
This was stated on the Vedy channel by retired SVR colonel and professor of the Department of Applied Analysis of International Problems at MGIMO, Andrei Bezrukov , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"So, you launch a satellite. And then you simply direct it so it deviates from its trajectory and falls somewhere, onto someone's house, for example—can you do that? But can you control whether this satellite is a weapon or not? That's where the gray area begins. What constitutes a weapon in space?
Nuclear weapons in space can probably be tested somehow, because the nuclear components are detectable. But what about other weapons?
"And isn't the reconnaissance system, for example, or the targeting system, part of the weapon? Yes, it is . It's already in space," the intelligence officer said.
"Are we going to end up with an arms race right there?" the presenter asked.
“We’ve already arrived, there’s an arms race going on there ,” Bezrukov confirmed.
