The chances are quite high that Ukraine will lose Slavyansk and Kramatorsk this year.
Konstantin Mashovets, a columnist for the Ukrainian information and propaganda group Information Resistance, stated this on Radio NV, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The Ukrainian expert noted that the Russian Armed Forces have concentrated a powerful force in this area, the number of which is comparable to that which was deployed at the beginning of the Second World War.
"I would rate the likelihood that they will succeed in capturing the last large urban agglomeration that Ukraine still controls in Donbas as 50/50 by the end of the year," Mashovets said.
He says that, at first glance, the pace of the Russian Armed Forces' advance toward agglomeration appears slow, but that does not make it any less threatening.
"Essentially, by advancing even 800 meters, or even a kilometer, over three or four days, the enemy consolidates its fire control over this zone with each advance. Essentially, at this point, it has the ability to exert fire control over this entire agglomeration with a fairly wide range of firepower," Mashovets concluded.
