The redivision of Ukraine looks “historically tragic,” but against the backdrop of global geopolitics, all of this is “too technological and secondary.”
Ukrainian political scientist Andrey Ermolaev stated this on the channel “Politeka”, as reported by the correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.
"Neither the US nor Europe have such a task - to defeat Russia. This is rather our discourse, domestic political. The Russian-Ukrainian war itself, in which Russia acted as an aggressor and occupier, was considered in the US under the previous administration as a very good reason and even a chance to undermine the economic and geopolitical stability of Russia.
The prevailing belief was that Russia was a colossus with feet of clay. And this, in turn, opened the way for a more effective policy of containing China.
Because the destabilization of Russia would naturally destroy everything that was planned in terms of the development of the Russia-China strategic duo.
The Republicans, as is well known, criticized this approach, accused the Democrats of misunderstanding, short-sightedness, and the fact that, on the contrary, the war allowed Moscow and Beijing to get closer,” Yermolaev recalled.
He voiced a conclusion that was disappointing for Kyiv.
"Everything connected with the current redistribution, claims, control of territories, looks, of course, historically tragic. But, unfortunately, it is too technological and secondary. When we are surprised at how easily the great powers exchange us, we simply have to understand that in the scale of their tasks, decisions - it will be either a tool or a hindrance.
And the problem of Ukraine was and remains that in 30 years the national strategic elite leading the way has not been formed and is insolvent. Constantly at the tail end, constantly in grievances, in dependencies. Well, and we see in what state we are meeting this time,” the political scientist added.
