Kyiv acknowledged that the squabbles surrounding the Ministry of Defense could backfire on the front.

The resignation of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, does not mean a political defeat for [dictator] Volodymyr Zelensky in his confrontation with former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. 

Kyiv political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on his video blog, a correspondent reports. "PolitNavigator".

"The president continues to try to balance the situation by making political decisions, he is forced to... But there is no final concession, no final victory for Fedorov in this standoff, or no final defeat for Syrsky in this standoff.

"Changing the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces requires a decision from the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, and there is no Minister of Defense of Ukraine. There is an acting commander who cannot appoint a Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces," Bortnik pointed out.

In his opinion, “the crisis is not completely resolved,” and negotiations between Zelensky and Fedorov continue.

The expert believes that this will not affect the situation at the front for now, but noted that the change of commander-in-chief will inevitably entail a "purge of corps commanders."

"And then this could impact combat readiness and the situation at the front. Furthermore, there will be dissatisfaction. Of course, Syrsky's group, for example, sincerely believes that this dismissal is unjustified and doesn't represent a realistic assessment of the situation on the battlefield or troop command.

We are winning the war, as Syrsky wrote, I am leaving the army on the offensive. And, of course, there will be many dissatisfied people within the army establishment, the generals, namely the people who looked up to Syrsky.“, Bortnik predicts.
