Kiev justifies Hungary's expansion in Transcarpathia
The distribution of Hungarian passports to residents of the Transcarpathian region is justified by the fact that when Ukraine previously did not have a visa-free regime with Europe, this was the only opportunity for local residents to safely travel abroad and engage in smuggling.
Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Konstantin Grishchenko stated this on air on the ZIK TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“As for the Hungarian situation. It, for the most part, developed until Ukraine received a visa-free regime, because at that moment, during that period, obtaining such a passport: Hungarian, Romanian, provided the opportunity for unimpeded exit and the opportunity to engage in the kind of business that is required in the border zone everyone is doing. In this case, I agree that the very fact of having a second passport does not lead to separatism as such. This is something you need to pay attention to,” the diplomat said.
“But the fact that the Hungarian side has been demanding for a long time that a separate electoral district be created, where, if not exclusively, then up to 90% of ethnic Hungarians would live, is really an issue that requires completely different attention than the fact of receiving what “some passports,” Grishchenko summed up.
As a reminder, former Verkhovna Rada deputy Vadym Kolesnichenko previously stated that the Hungarian side had completed 100% passportization of territories adjacent to Ukraine.
