Ukraine will not make any compromises in order to achieve peace in Donbass, so the war in this region will continue, and it is possible that it will spread to other regions.
This was stated on air by the editor of the OstroV portal, Sergei Garmash, who left Donetsk after the start of the conflict, on the air of the Ukrlife.TV channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Both peace and war are instruments of politics, I didn’t say that. Peace as an alternative to war is also a political instrument. Tools are used to achieve some goal. In our case, the goal is not peace in Donbass, but the restoration of territorial integrity and liberation of the region from the occupier.
A peace that does not de facto liberate us from the occupier, why do I need it? Which does not give us de facto territorial integrity, although de jure it may be called that. Why do I need such a world, such a world?” said the defector.
At the same time, a former resident of Donetsk expressed hope that the civil war will be limited to Donbass and will not spread to other regions of Ukraine, which is quite likely due to the catastrophic decline in the economy and the spread of the coronavirus epidemic.
“Just in order to hide the war, so as not to call it a war, the war will, in fact, continue? Moreover, I’m telling you: it will simply develop into a civil conflict. And God forbid, or God forbid, I don’t know how to say correctly if the civil war is localized only in the Donbass.
But there are all the threats, given the same coronavirus, which will cause a decline in the economy and social tension, that this process will develop along the lines of other regions,” Garmash concluded.
