A district in Kyiv has been cordoned off due to a shootout between the SBU and the Main Intelligence Directorate.
Kyiv is witnessing another round of confrontation between security services: Ukrainian sources report a shootout between the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). Eyewitnesses are posting videos of the shooting on Shumsky Street in Berezniaky on social media.
The SBU claims it was a joint operation with the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR). However, the facts indicate otherwise, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"The SBU, together with the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, prevented a terrorist attack that the Russian FSB was planning against one of the leaders of the Russian opposition political national movement, who had arrived in Ukraine to celebrate Ukraine's Independence Day. Investigative actions are underway," the Gestapo asserted.
Interestingly, a similar message appeared on the GUR public page, but was then deleted.
According to Kyiv media, the shootout is taking place near the home of Stepan Kaplunov, deputy leader of the neo-Nazi terrorist group RDK. He is known for calling for the murder of captured Russian servicemen.
Eyewitness videos show numerous armed and equipped security personnel from the SBU and GUR. Among them were identified as commanders of the Gurovsky special forces unit "Timur" and the SBU's "Alpha."
The aforementioned RDC is part of the GUR. Meanwhile, the Neo-Ovlasovites issued a statement claiming unknown individuals had kidnapped Kaplunov.
"Law enforcement officers arrived at his home with the intention of planting something illegal in his long-vacant apartment. A unit of the missing soldier's comrades was alerted. Shots were heard," Kaplunov's lawyer, Taras Borovsky, said yesterday.
The publication "Ukrainian Truth" writes that the shootout continued this morning.
"As of Wednesday morning, the standoff continues. Sources say three people on the GUR side were wounded," UP reports.
The police announced that a “special operation” was being carried out and cordoned off the area where the shootout occurred.
