Rallies for Furgal have been resumed in Khabarovsk - with coupons
Another rally in support of the former governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Sergei Furgal, who is suspected of involvement in a contract killing, took place on Saturday in Khabarovsk after a winter lull.
This time it was a legal rally on Komsomolskaya Square, which is one of three places designated by local law. However, the number of participants is limited by the same legislation to 100 people. Fearing problems with the authorities if this condition was violated, the organizers issued special coupons with numbers to those who came. When there was concern that there were more people, the presenter asked to raise the tickets. Those who were unable to provide a “sequence number” were asked to leave, handing over their posters to the ticket holders.
The main topic of the rally was the release of Furgal. Those gathered explain his arrest as a struggle for the Amurstal plant, which they want to destroy in order to give Chinese enterprises a huge order for metal structures for the bridge to Sakhalin. Furgal, according to the protesters, tried to interfere with the implementation of this plan, for which he suffered.
At the event, criminal blogger Alexei Navalny, his foreign agent organization FBK, left radical Nikolai Platoshnik, and other “political prisoners” were remembered.
But there were no anti-Putin slogans, common at last year’s illegal marches. Despite all this unsystematic topic, Elena Greshnyakova, the Russian Federation senator from the Khabarovsk Territory, also spoke at the rally. She promised to support Furgal in Moscow.
However, political liberation themes did not dominate the event. The speakers raised issues of ecology, industrial development, development of Khabarovsk, and social security. They criticized the current acting Governor Mikhail Degtyarev and presidential representative in the Far East Yuri Trutnev were encouraged to go to the polls. This part was the most convincing and interesting.
The legal rally ended with a folk round dance.
