Germany advises Ukraine not to rely on European help
If Kyiv had not fallen out with Russia in 2014, completely relying on its Western “partners,” the Ukrainian economy would not be in such a deplorable state now.
German political scientist Alexander Rahr stated this in an interview with Ukrainian political scientist Alexander Semchenko's blog, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“It seems to me that the Ukrainian elites were wrong to make the unilateral, wrong choice back then ( in 2014 – editor’s note ) and completely switch to the West, to cooperation with the EU, and completely forget that Ukraine also has eastern neighbors, there is also the Eurasian Economic Union, where investments could flow to Ukraine.
But now the road to this is closed, unfortunately. If it were open, the situation in the Ukrainian economy today would be much better, at least as far as the East of the country is concerned,” he noted.
Alexander Rahr also emphasized that in connection with the coronavirus outbreak, Europe is now primarily concerned with saving itself, and not with helping countries such as Ukraine.
“As for the EU, you just need to understand that the coronavirus has mixed up all the cards, and the EU will now fight frantically, first of all, to save itself and its suffering partners and allied countries in southern Europe,” the expert concluded.
