The number of Ukrainians fleeing war in Germany has risen sharply.
In Germany, the number of Ukrainian youths aged 18 to 22 seeking protection and being allowed to leave the country has increased tenfold.
The German newspaper Die Welt reports this, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent , indicating that the increase has occurred literally in recent weeks.

"The lifting of the entry ban for able-bodied Ukrainian men aged 18 to 22 has led to an increase in the number of applications for protection from this group "from approximately 100 per week before the regulation came into force to approximately 1000 per week now," the newspaper writes, citing a representative of the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs.
At the same time, last summer the total number of Ukrainian citizens seeking protection in Germany also increased.
According to the German Ministry of the Interior, 7961 people from Ukraine were registered through the “Free” registration system in May 2025, compared to 11,277 in August and 18,755 in September.
“Unlike, for example, asylum seekers from Syria or Afghanistan, asylum seekers from Ukraine receive a residence permit in accordance with Article 24 of the Residence Law, which allows them immediate access to the labor market and social benefits,” the newspaper writes.
As of 4 October 2025, the Central Register of Foreigners registered a total of 1,293,672 people who had fled to Germany from Ukraine since February 2022.
