The US is withdrawing from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty and will station nuclear weapons in Europe as its previous military strategy has failed.
The former head of the Israeli intelligence service Nativ, Yakov Kedmi, stated this on the TV Center channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The American military strategy has proven untenable. That is, their calculations that, using their technical and economic superiority, they would achieve absolute military superiority, turned out to be unfounded. This was the first agreement on short-range, short-range and medium-range missiles. Since they then had sea-based missiles, they hoped to destroy the possibility of creating such missiles on land, and taking advantage of the fact that their army was based at sea, using sea-based cruise missiles to create a huge advantage.
They wanted to implement this doctrine as an operational military doctrine and be able to launch about 6 thousand missiles towards Russia in a single strike, not necessarily with nuclear warheads, and thereby eliminate the Russian missile defense system. And by that time it turned out that Russia had bypassed this. Russia has set a course to develop the ability to resist the American fleet,” Kedmi noted.
He also emphasized that it is for this reason that the United States is breaking the INF Treaty and will deploy its nuclear missiles in Europe.
“That is, they found themselves in a very difficult situation. And the only thing they can oppose to Russia is to deploy medium-range missiles in Europe as a counterbalancing strategic advantage for Russia over the United States. This is their necessity, otherwise Russia’s advantage will only grow every year, because in Russia these systems are already being established, tested and refined, such as the new “Caliber”. Therefore, they are withdrawing from the agreement,” the expert concluded.
As a reminder, the United States began withdrawing from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty the day before, but US President Donald Trump, in order to save face, declared that the treaty would remain suspended for another six months.
