In 2014, the Ukrainian Armed Forces were preparing to strike Bryansk, Belgorod and Rostov - Muzhenko
At the end of February and beginning of March 2014, Ukraine brought its troops along its borders with Russia to full combat readiness. On command, about 55 thousand military personnel could enter the conflict.
Former Chief of the General Staff Viktor Muzhenko stated this on Radio Liberty, which is funded by the US State Department, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“In general, when these events related to Crimea began - the end of February, the beginning of March, under the legend of the “Spring Shower” exercises, the entire Armed Forces were put on combat readiness - “full” -. And several groups were created in different directions, because on February 26 the Russians put the troops of the Western Military District, the Southern Military District, and the Central Military District on alert.
Then, under the legend, groups were deployed, in parallel with the deployment of the Armed Forces with a total strength of 55 thousand. Of these, 25 thousand are the ground component and 30 thousand are the Air Force. This is everything - air defense units, aviation, subunits and support units, and so on. 55 thousand is the total number of those groups that were created in potentially dangerous directions - this includes the Chernigov-Kyiv direction, in the Kharkov direction, in the Donbass and in the Crimean direction,” Muzhenko said.
