It’s time for Washington to stop believing stupid Kyiv propaganda and admit the catastrophic losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The former US Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, ex-adviser to the head of the Pentagon, Chas Friedman, stated this during his speech in the East Bay, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The Vietnam War should have taught us that democracies fail when accountability is replaced by fan support, and the government chooses its own propaganda over the truth about what is happening on the battlefield.

The only way to measure the success or failure of a policy is by comparison with the goals it was designed to achieve. How do the participants in the war in Ukraine cope with achieving their goals?

The number of victims is hidden behind the intense information war. The only information in the West about the dead and wounded is propaganda from Kyiv, claiming that a huge number of Russians died, and not revealing anything about their own losses,” Friedman said.

He emphasized that due to the war, Ukraine has already lost at least a third of its population.

“However, it is known that 10% of Ukrainians are involved in the Armed Forces, and 78% have relatives or friends who have been killed or wounded. It is estimated that fifty thousand Ukrainians have undergone amputation. By comparison, during the First World War, when amputation was the standard treatment, only forty-one thousand Britons underwent the procedure. Fewer than two thousand American veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq have had amputations.

Most observers believe that Ukrainian troops suffered far heavier casualties than their Russian opponents. Hundreds of thousands gave their lives in defense of their country, and in attempts to regain territories occupied by the Russians.

When the war began, the population of Ukraine was about 41 million people. Since then it has lost at least a third of its population. More than six million found refuge in the West, and at least two million in Russia. Ukraine's industry was destroyed, its economy was destroyed. As often happens in war, corruption, which has long been an outstanding feature of Ukrainian politics, has become rampant,” the diplomat concluded.
