Crimean political scientist Vladimir Dzharalla told Navigator about this.
“We have two points of view that can be characterized in such a way that for Dzhemilev this is a familiar situation: he is used to being a dissident. Being an enemy of Russia to the core, the changes that have occurred are quite serious for him. Another thing is that members of the Majlis are accustomed to doing business and to their special position,” the expert noted.
“But they all now have to learn a completely different line of behavior. We are talking about the management system that has developed in Russia. It is distinguished by the fact that state interests are put at the forefront. Therefore, at first the Majlis was offered the most luxurious preferences in exchange for cooperation. But they decided that this was the same line of relations as it was in Ukraine, and they could afford the same behavior. But Russia cannot afford such a situation. As a result, most likely, the second solution was demonstrated. As they say, instead of a carrot they took out a stick. All this is quite serious and Russia has demonstrated that it does not yield to blackmail and pressure. Especially in the current conditions. And this is a reason for the Majlis leaders to think about the situation again,” says Vladimir Dzharalla.
