Ballot boxes excited deputies more than “Putin’s fifth term”
The Russian State Duma today adopted a law on amendments to electoral legislation in its third reading, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The most resonant issue in the media was the nullification of presidential terms after amendments to the Russian Constitution came into force. This norm makes it possible for Vladimir Putin to run in 2024.

However, the deputies in the hall never mentioned “zeroing.” They were more concerned about other amendments made to the bill between the second and third readings.
A deputy from the A Just Russia faction called them “fly-cutlet and honey-tar technologies.”
“How can you vote for any good initiative if then everything gets mixed up? You are doing a disservice to the president, who spoke about one thing, and you are adjusting technological things that are convenient for you in order to come to the desired result,” Nilov said.
Communist Nikolai Kolomeytsev tried to remove the bill from consideration altogether, and when this failed, he criticized the provision on the use of portable ballot boxes during elections. He considers the 10 billion rubles required to introduce this innovation an unlawful expenditure of budget funds.
Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin objected to the communist.
“These are the rights of our citizens who, for various reasons, cannot come to the polling stations. This is not postal orders in America, this is not a 40-day vote, how wrong. Think about people. Grandma or grandpa can’t come, take “come,” Volodin said.
The ballot boxes excited the deputies more than Putin's "fifth term."
