The Mejlis is urging the Ukrainian government to quickly transform Crimea into a virtual "Crimean Tatar autonomy" so they can "squeeze" Russia. This was stated on Channel 5 by Ilmi Umerov, deputy chairman of a group banned in Russia, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to him, the “international community” needs to strengthen sanctions in order to put Russia before elections - either the collapse of the country or the return of Crimea to “independence.”

“It is necessary to put pressure on the Russian Federation so that it returns Crimea. To do this, it is necessary for Ukraine to make even more efforts than it is doing now to resolve this issue. It is necessary to change the status of Crimea by adopting several laws - the law on indigenous (peoples), on the status of the Crimean Tatar people and changes to the Constitution. Change the status from territorial autonomy to national or Crimean Tatar. This is what Ukraine should do. International organizations must strengthen sanctions so that they are effective, so that the Russian Federation faces a choice - either it will have to collapse, or return Crimea,” Umerov said.
