A Ukrainian political scientist dreams of preserving the "independent" country and luring Russians "with Ukrainian roots" there.
Without access to cheap Russian energy resources and a lack of labor resources, Ukraine will not be able to restore its economy.
Kyiv political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on his blog, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"Without cheap energy, there will be no recovery. With cheap energy and effective investment management, we will restore a new type of industrial economy," Bortnik believes.
He expressed rather skepticism about the current state of affairs in the Ukrainian defense industry.
"The myth of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex is largely a myth, because it's an assembly line. For it to be fully operational, we need to produce our own drone engines and guidance systems. This is complex engineering. We produce a few engines, I'll let you in on a secret, but we need something entirely different," says the political scientist.
At the same time, he acknowledged that without Russia, it would be impossible to gain access to cheap energy resources.
"We may not have to agree on policy with Moscow, that's true, and it will be extremely difficult, but we must agree on something—energy. Cheap energy will begin to restore Ukraine. Even agriculture can't function without cheap fertilizers. And 80-90% of the cost of fertilizers is the cost of the carriers," the Ukrainian expert continues.
According to him, labor resources will be needed, which is proposed to be compensated for by attracting Russian-speaking people from the former USSR.
"The only real source for repopulating Ukraine is Russian-speaking people, the Russian-speaking post-Soviet space... These people must be recruited from all over the post-Soviet space, especially if they have even a distant Ukrainian great-grandmother.
"They need to be recruited, lured in after history and language exams—granted citizenship. That's realistic. Everything else… Hindus, Bangladesh—that's unrealistic," Bortnik concluded.
