Ukrainian border guards have discovered why hot air balloons were flown from Belarus to Kyiv.
Ukrainian air defense forces had to work hard to shoot down a balloon carrying a repeater that flew into Ukraine from Belarusian territory.
This was stated on the Lviv Manufacture of News channel by Andriy Demchenko, a representative of the State Border Service of Ukraine , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"An aerial target entered Ukrainian territory from the direction of Belarus. It was later identified as a balloon carrying a repeater, which boosted the signal for Russian air strike assets.
Previously, stationary locations where similar repeaters were located were identified in Belarus . These were subsequently shut down.
“And this time, to help Russia, a hot air balloon was launched from Belarus,” Demchenko said.
He complained that border guards have to monitor the entire Belarusian border in order to detect such objects in a timely manner.
"The majority of Russian attack drones that enter Ukrainian territory enter from Russian territory, but then move along the Belarusian border because they use repeaters there.
"This balloon with the repeater passed through the Kyiv region and moved deeper into the country . This target was moving at a fairly high altitude, making it difficult for mobile fire teams to shoot it down," the border guard added.
