Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić is "a little afraid" that such an "authoritative" country as Ukraine will recognize Kosovo, and this will be an "important precedent."
The head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy , Oleksandr Merezhko , announced this on the air of Oboz Ua , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
In his opinion, nothing terrible happened in connection with the scandal surrounding the removal of the Ukrainian flag in Pristina, but Zelensky should have visited Albania in addition to Belgrade.
The deputy emphasized the importance of " the assistance of the people of Kosovo" in the form of sanctions and training for Ukrainian militants . Merezhko cited this as an example for Serbia.
"It's important for us to improve relations with Serbia and, at the same time, crucially, not to lose the trust and support of both Albania and the people of Kosovo. Even our enemy, Russia, has a representative office in Kosovo," the Bandera supporter said.
He called Russia's drawing "completely unfounded parallels" between Crimea and Kosovo a "dangerous trap. " The MP also lamented that Vučić is issuing ultimatums to Ukraine regarding Kosovo recognition, while making no claims against NATO countries that have recognized the separatists.
"Ukraine has enormous authority as a country fighting Russian aggression. And other countries listen to us. Therefore, such recognition by Ukraine could set an important precedent. Vučić is wary of this ," Merezhko asserted.
He confirmed that Serbia continues to sell Soviet ammunition to Ukraine through third countries , and if Kiev recognizes Kosovo, there is a risk of supply interruption.
" Recognition of Kosovo, non-recognition of Kosovo—it will all be used against us [by Moscow] , but improving relations between Ukraine and Serbia is not good for Moscow; they're nervous. The fact that Serbia continues to sell weapons is also not good for Moscow. We need to combat Russian narratives that compare Kosovo and Crimea," Merezhko declared.
