A Ukrainian expert laments: “We find ourselves in strategic isolation!”
Looking at Ukraine, the world is growing pessimistic about security guarantees from leading Western countries.
Kyiv political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on his video blog , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
" The Ukrainian experience has sobered many countries, making them question whether their allies will come to their aid at a crucial moment . If a country that had been recognized, encouraged, and invited into the Western community for years was effectively left alone at certain moments to face its problems and a Russian invasion, then how reliable are the promises of security for others? This question is increasingly being raised both in Europe and beyond. Strategic loneliness is transforming from an abstract concept into a real feeling for many leaders and nations," the expert believes.
According to him, this dilemma is being discussed more and more loudly not only in Europe, but also beyond its borders.
"Particularly against the backdrop of the NATO crisis and US-European relations, strategic loneliness has ceased to be a theoretical category and has become a reality, felt at the level of political elites and societies. In Europe, especially among countries bordering Russia, the understanding has grown stronger that an automatic security guarantee no longer exists ," Bortnik concludes.
