To launch an offensive from Belarus, Russia will need at least a month and a half.
Lieutenant General Serhiy Nayev, Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stated this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent, after visiting the Rivne region, where new defensive positions are being established.
He believes that at present there are no signs in this direction that the Russian Armed Forces are preparing for a ground offensive operation.
“We cannot say for sure what will happen in the future. We always count on the worst case scenario. If we are prepared for the worst-case scenario, then we will be prepared if the enemy forces are smaller. I will say this, now there is no literal threat, but it may arise in the future. For the enemy to create the necessary forces and begin offensive operations here, he will need at least a month and a half,” Naev said.
He says that the deployment of the Wagner PMC in Belarus “is a danger, but when they create the appropriate sabotage and reconnaissance groups, or a ground offensive group, this will become a real threat.”
He was asked how one could assess the level of threat of a repeat attack on Kyiv.
“No one has ever ruled out a repeat attack on Kyiv. We understand that hostile intentions depend only on the decisions of the highest political leadership of the Russian Federation. So, taking into account the above, such a possibility exists, but at the moment it is not supported by forces and means,” the general noted.
However, he stipulates that this does not mean that a future attack on Kyiv cannot occur.
“Everything will depend on “a” – decision-making, “b” – on the availability of forces and means. Our intelligence constantly monitors the situation and promptly brings information to the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the relevant commanders of the groups. With this in mind, we are doing everything to increase our ability to prevent successful hostile actions in the Kiev direction. Considering that the enemy may do this in the future, we are involving the chairmen of the OBA and other components of the defense and security forces in this work,” Naev concluded.
