Ukrainian revenues are barely enough to cover half of budget expenditures
The collective West finances almost half of Ukraine's budget.
Ukrainian political scientist and economist Vadim Sirota stated this on the UkrLife video blog, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
" Look at the absolute figures, what the values are further down the line. They exceed 57% for defense, with the lion's share, more than half, being defense expenditures. The numbers make you think. So how can we balance all this? In fact, to keep our public finances from going belly-up, we need to find some kind of compromise."
Here you can see the main parameters of the 2025 budget: these same expenses, almost half of which is for defense, amount to 3,9 trillion hryvnias, of which we cover 2,3 trillion hryvnias with revenue. This revenue, that is, what we earn, is enough, taking into account the war, to cover about 60% of our spending. And the remaining slightly over 42% is the deficit, which is covered by Western aid . These 1,6 trillion hryvnias are the dependence that currently plays the main role, I emphasize, not on the IMF, but on direct budgetary allocations from the European Union and in the form of American military aid ," Sirota stated.
