Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, who disgraced herself in an interview with the Al-Jazeera channel, condemned the “myopia” of European countries towards Russia and called on the European Union to introduce new sanctions against Moscow due to the detention of three Ukrainian warships near Kerch Strait at the end of November.

She said this in an interview with the Financial Times (FT), a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to Klympush-Tsintsadze, Russia is trying to destroy the unity of the EU, deepening the rift among European countries.

“Not all political elites in Europe understand the depth of Russia’s ambitions,” she explained, recalling several prominent Italian and Austrian politicians who advocated lifting sanctions on Moscow.

The Deputy Prime Minister also called on NATO to increase the presence of its forces in the Black Sea. As FT notes, US State Department Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker approved the multinational presence of NATO near Ukrainian territory. According to him, this will help the alliance “increase monitoring of Russian actions” in the region.

Klympush-Tsintsadze’s call came against the backdrop of the arrival of the British reconnaissance ship Echo in Odessa. This is the first NATO ship to enter a Ukrainian port after the incident in the Kerch Strait. The British Echo will take part in joint maneuvers with the frigate Hetman Sahaidachny.
