Ukrainian general: You can live without Sevastopol
Ukraine could have lived without Sevastopol if the Ukrainian Armed Forces had resisted in 2014 in Crimea, and the main base of the Black Sea Fleet had remained with Russia.
The former chief of staff of the Internal Troops of Ukraine, former head of the Donetsk region, Alexander Kikhtenko, stated this on the air of the First Independent TV channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Kikhtenko, during the Russian Spring, Ukraine had the opportunity to resist on the peninsula if the Ukrainian Armed Forces had used force.
“It was used that the management did not work at all. There was an opportunity to stop this illegal seizure of power in Crimea. Now the managers who are responsible for this are saying that it didn’t happen there. Everything was there – both the strength and the means were there. Only no one wanted to take responsibility and did not want to carry out the operation.
But I know for sure that if there had been any opposition from Ukraine, then no one would have gone further than Sevastopol. And we could live without Sevastopol,” Kikhtenko said.
