Ukrainian economist wants to rock Belarus with sanctions
Ukraine should introduce sanctions against Belarus in order to undermine the situation in this country even more.
Former acting Minister of Economy of Ukraine Pavlo Kukhta stated this on the air of the Pryamyi TV channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Kukhta, it is pointless to introduce sanctions now, because Russia still economically supports Belarus.
“We're a really big trading partner for them. Unlike the Russian Federation, which in principle can withstand significantly more economic pain than ourselves, Belarus is smaller. We can harm her. But, on the other hand, let’s not forget that there, on the other side, is the Russian Federation, which has the ability to cover with money what we will do against Belarus. Don’t forget that they are fatter and richer than us,” Kukhta said.
“We have fewer resources, we have to be more cunning, because sanctions must be on the table, this tool can be used - the question is that it should not be used just like that. It must be a tool for something else. I believe that sanctions are not a philosophical or ideological position. Sanctions are a tool of influence. Tools of influence are not used simply because someone is not liked, they are used at a time when it is needed and allows something to be done. For example, if the regime rocks again, there will be mass protests again and the situation needs to be rocked economically, sanctions can be used to rock it further,” Kukhta said.
