Ukrainian military prepares for NATO exercises
The Ukrainian military, involved in the NATO military exercises Trident Juncture-2018, will begin practicing exercises in the second, command and staff phase of the exercises, which will take place from November 9 to 23, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by the military representative of the Ukrainian mission to NATO, General Vladimir Askarov.

“The direct participation of our military personnel (in Trident Juncture 2018) will begin only in the second phase of the exercises - the so-called command and staff phase - it will last from November 9 to 23. Five of our servicemen are participating there,” the general noted.
According to him, geographically the Ukrainian military will be located in three main places: Ramstein (Germany), Naples (Italy) and Stavanger (Norway).
“Our military personnel in Ramstein will be involved in planning air operations, planning operations for the transportation of various units. In Naples, our officer will be responsible for planning future logistics operations, and another officer will act as the Media Operations Center officer. The officer in Norway will deal with issues of civil-military cooperation, that is, issues of interaction during combat operations between the military, the local population and authorities,” Askarov said.
He noted that the exercises work out Article 5 of the Washington Treaty, which determines that an attack on any member of the Alliance is an attack on all NATO countries. That is, these are exercises with groups of multinational collective defense forces.
“The main task is to achieve compatibility between command and control bodies, formations and military units of the armed forces of NATO member countries. Partner presence at these exercises is a significant advantage, which only five countries currently have: Ukraine, Georgia, Jordan, Sweden and Finland,” he added.
