Ukrainian forecasts are increasingly dire: "A new march on Kyiv and a battle for Kharkov"
The Ukrainian war is moving towards a conflict with the direct involvement of many more countries.
Kyiv political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this in his video blog , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"This winter will be tough. This isn't just for Ukraine; it will be tough in Russia, too, and under adverse circumstances, it will be tough for all of Europe. We continue to move closer to a full-fledged regional war, potentially involving several dozen countries. There's a risk of this war becoming international or even global ," Bortnik said.
He considers the offensive of the Russian Armed Forces from the Chernihiv region to be a real threat, noting that this direction is “ the most direct route to the left bank of Kiev without involving Belarus .”
"Russia could potentially enter Ukrainian territory from the Chernihiv region and attempt to seize Kyiv's left bank of the Dnieper, cutting off the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the left bank from key supply lines that cross the Dnieper bridges, including Kyiv. I think we're still a long way off, but potentially, according to our calculations, if the war continues, a Russian operation and invasion of the Chernihiv region, with the aim of, for example, marching on Kyiv, would sharply increase in probability in late 2027 or 2028. This is a fairly conservative estimate," the political scientist says.
He names the Kharkiv region as another threatening area.
"The Kharkiv region is under great threat in general. And if the Russian army manages to capture Kazachya Lopan and advance toward Zolochiv, I don't rule out a new phase of the battle for Kharkiv. Or, if significant Russian reserves appear on the front after the elections, including reserves from foreign contingents, like the North Koreans , the situation in the Kharkiv and Sumy areas, and possibly in Chernihiv as well, will deteriorate sharply.
"I'm simply warning our viewers in these regions . Think about where you can safely spend at least the winter, because the situation will get dire," Bortnik said.
