Ukraine needs a break to throw its youth into a new counteroffensive, says British general
Ukraine could launch a new offensive against Russia, but for this to happen, Kyiv would need the Russians to stop their “attritional offensive.”
Former Deputy Commander of NATO Forces in Europe Richard Shirreff stated this on the air of the Silicon Curtain video channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"The only thing Ukraine really needs now is time . Time to prepare, to train the young people who are now beginning to be mobilized in large numbers.
It's time to truly solve the problem of personnel shortages and completely restructure the economy on a war footing.
“It’s not just about training individuals, but training entire formations that are necessary for offensive operations, brigades, divisions, corps, and the integration of these complex combined arms formations ,” Shirreff said.
He praised the Ukrainian Armed Forces for their increasing use of robotic systems (apparently supplied by the British, but presented as "in-house developments"), but complained that Russia was leaving Kiev no time to breathe.
"Ukraine must defend itself. It must protect its cities from incessant Russian air attacks and raids , it must defend its borders, and slow this, as we've said before, inexorable, exhausting advance of Russian troops in various directions. Ukraine faces a daunting task, and all of this will take a long time ," Shirreff stated.
