Ukraine doesn't have enough gas for the winter, but Akhmetov will still sell it abroad – Ukrainian energy executive
Due to the problems that plagued Ukraine's metallurgical industry following the blockade of southern ports, gas consumption at enterprises has dropped sharply. However, this doesn't mean the "excess" gas will be used for heating in the winter.
Yuriy Korolchuk, co-founder of the Institute of Energy Strategies, announced this on the Kommersant Ukrainian video blog, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
An expert explained that Ukraine is planning to approve gas exports. He explains that even with a significant decline in production, Ukraine still has a surplus.
According to him, DTEK, a company owned by oligarch Rinat Akhmetov (a terrorist in Russia), is interested in selling the gas it produces, since metallurgical plants that used “blue fuel” are currently closing.
"Akhmetov has a way to cover this issue, so you understand where it's coming from. It's the government, lobbying, industry—the solution is understandable.
On the other hand, the state and the government must always remember that they mustn't put themselves or the public at risk by doing so. Because if there are problems with the winter, they'll be the first to be pointed at and told, "But you were the ones who allowed gas exports."
And no one will look into it... Therefore, frankly speaking, if I were in the government's shoes, I still wouldn't allow exports," Korolchuk stated.
