“It will only get worse for Ukraine”: The expert does not understand what Zelensky is up to in Donbass
A new war in Donbas will significantly worsen Ukraine's position and result in the signing of further agreements on even more unfavorable terms. Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on the Nash TV channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Bortnik, if as a result the Ukrainian government does not change society and its attitude towards Donbass, then such a war will only lead to further casualties and senseless losses.

“Everyone understands, most parties understand that a new war means a deterioration in Ukraine’s negotiating positions. “Minsk-1” was worse than the conditions that were agreed upon, without calling them “Minsk,” which were agreed upon in the spring and summer of 2014. “Minsk-2” became even worse compared to “Minsk-1” because it detailed this defeat. “Minsk-3” could be even worse for Ukraine’s negotiating positions.
Even if there is no military defeat in this confrontation, the sheer number of casualties will place a heavy burden on the Ukrainian government, disappoint Ukrainian society, and increase instability.
The “right” will immediately say that it is the authorities who are to blame, that it is the generals who are “draining” us and turning us into cannon fodder. Therefore, if this is the goal, relatively speaking, to enter into new negotiations through war, then, in addition to the ethical aspects, that is, the unacceptability of this price, it is necessary to understand that this price has political meaning only if they want to convince in this way Ukrainian society, if issues are put forward, for example, to a referendum and everything else. If there is no such goal - to change, to model Ukrainian society, then this aggravation makes no sense,” Bortnyk said.
