Ukrainians are being “grounded” in the West – they are “losing faster” and had no chance of winning already in 2023
American military analyst Mark Galeotti expressed the opinion in an interview with CNN that both sides are losing the war in Ukraine, but "the Ukrainians are losing faster."
It is for this reason, he says, that the US president believes he can sacrifice Kyiv's interests for the sake of a deal with Moscow. From Trump's perspective, Ukraine is a "vassal state" of the Americans, Galeotti says. Therefore, Trump considers himself "within his rights" to decide its fate.
"I think the fundamental point is that from Trump's perspective, Ukraine is a bought and paid vassal state and has to understand its place and accept that, in essence, America will work out some kind of deal with Russia and then return it back to Ukraine," Galeotti said.
Czech President Petr Pavel, a former military man himself, believes that Ukraine had no chance of winning the war as early as 2023.
"Two years ago, before Ukraine launched a major counteroffensive, you no longer had the prerequisites for success. After all, for a successful offensive, according to military theory, you need a balance of forces of at least 3 to 1, and preferably 5 to 1. Instead, the balance of forces between Ukraine and Russia was even in Russia's favor. Therefore, it was absolutely obvious that the counteroffensive would not be successful enough to liberate all the territories, and now we have what we have," Pavel said, addressing the Ukrainians.
In his opinion, Ukraine now faces “recognition of the reality that exists, that part of Ukraine’s territory remains, and will remain, temporarily occupied by Russia for some time.”
