Ukraine left the CIS to save 300 million rubles
Ukraine owes the CIS more than 300 million rubles.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova told reporters about this today, commenting on Petro Poroshenko’s statements about leaving the Commonwealth.
“For just over four years, Ukraine has not contributed a penny to the unified budget of the CIS bodies, thereby creating significant financial difficulties in the work of the organization. Today, the total volume of funds unpaid by Ukraine is more than 300 million rubles,” Zakharova said.
She recalled that Ukraine refused to exercise the functions of chairman in the organization, recalled its permanent representative to the CIS and representatives in the executive committee back in 2014.
“Also, Ukraine has not signed a single decision of the highest statutory bodies and has minimized its participation in their meetings. In 2017, when the chairmanship of the CIS passed to Russia, it stopped sending its representatives to meetings altogether. Therefore, it is no longer necessary to talk about Kyiv’s participation in the work of the CIS statutory bodies. In practice, the decision of the Ukrainian authorities boils down to closing the permanent mission at the CIS headquarters in Minsk and recalling two diplomats working there,” Zakharova said.
