Ukraine is a professional drug addict on the IMF's needle
Ukraine failed the cooperation program with the IMF: out of the established 18 billion dollars, it received only 9 billion. Economist Viktor Skarshevsky said this today at a press conference in Kyiv.
“This is even for the better. The shortfall of $6 billion means that Ukraine’s external debt will not increase by $6 billion, as it could,” Skarshevsky said.
He calculated that, out of the 27 years of its existence, Ukraine has been in cooperation programs with the IMF for 16 years, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“We can say that Ukraine is a professional IMF drug addict. Thank God there have been no overdoses so far. Of the 9 programs with the IMF, only one in 1996 for $800 million was fully implemented. All others are on average 40%,” said Skarshevsky.
According to his data, during all this time Ukraine concluded agreements worth 70 billion dollars, but received only 28 billion.
