The success of the Ukrainian economy in the past year is already the fact that the country did not collapse, but the situation could significantly worsen after the loss of the monopoly on the transit of Russian gas.

Therefore, in this regard, we should rejoice; after 2014, everything could have been much worse.
But this does not mean that more serious problems do not await us, but they await us. Here we come to the basic challenges that Ukraine will face in 2019 and the following years. These are bypass gas pipelines that will be introduced after 2019, I have no doubt about it. And this will be a new option that Ukraine has not encountered, because gas rent was that sweet candy for which all presidents, governments fought, and multibillion-dollar fortunes were made from this cutting of gas flows, including not only the gas that comes from Russia to Europe, but also that which is mined inside more than official statistics show, goes in agreement with the Russians and is sold to Russia.
Now this gas rent model is entering an objective collapse, because the Russians are solving their strategic problems and seeking to maximize their income on the one hand, and on the other hand, to put Ukraine on a stricter ration in order to extract more preferences for themselves,” the expert explained.
Furthermore, as Alexei Pushkov, Chairman of the Federation Council Commission on Information Policy and Interaction with the Media, stated earlier, Nord Stream 2 could deprive states in southern Europe of the opportunity to profit from the transit of liquefied natural gas from North Africa and the Middle East.
