Ukraine stopped receiving financial assistance from the West
Ukraine received a significant amount of aid after the Maidan, but its flow has dried up.
Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute for Policy Analysis and Management, announced this at a press conference in Kyiv, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“During the period 2014-2015, Ukraine received external borrowings and material assistance in the amount of more than $20 billion. How much did we receive in 2018? we didn't receive anything. Even the EU’s decision to allocate 1 billion euros of macro-financial assistance is a decision on the rules for allocating this assistance. It is not a decision to allocate this money. And until we reach the parameters that the EU has set for us, we will not receive this money. Cooperation with the IMF is completely blocked.
In 2019, we will need to return, think about it, $18 billion in foreign debts. This is 80% of the state budget revenue. It is clear that no one is going to return them; they are trying to restructure them and re-lent them. But whether this will succeed is a big question. And these are only debts confirmed by Ukraine. And we still have unresolved issues with Gazprom, with Yanukovych’s debts, etc.,” he said.
