In an interview with MSNBC three days before leaving the White House, Joe Biden stated that he feared an assassination attempt during his visit to Kyiv in February 2023. Moreover, he feared not Putin, but certain Ukrainian "radicals."
"I didn't think Putin would dare to remove the American president. I was worried that radical elements in Ukraine who were under the control of or cooperating with the Russians might try to do it," the outgoing president said.
In this regard, according to Biden, during his visit to Kyiv he was accompanied by “the best people.”
As reported by the Associated Press, shortly before Biden's visit in question, there was "communication with the Russians to ensure deconfliction." Before that, as is known, the visit was on the verge of failure - the White House canceled it for security reasons, but then changed its mind.
