Poroshenko is frank: the Minsk agreements are needed like a battering ram against Russia
Ukraine is using the Minsk negotiations to strengthen European economic sanctions against the Russian Federation.
MP from the BPP Ivan Vinnik said this on air on the 112 Ukraine TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The people's deputy is confident that President Petro Poroshenko had direct influence on Leonid Kuchma, through whom he could influence the negotiation process.
“I am sure that Kuchma had effective and very high-quality contact with the President of Ukraine Poroshenko. On all issues that interested him, worried him, or President Poroshenko wanted to convey some position. I have no doubt that they were in direct contact at any time,” Vinnik said.
He added that Ukraine is doing everything possible to ensure that economic sanctions against Russia are not lifted, but rather strengthened.
“In fact, each meeting of the contact group only strengthens the Ukrainian negotiating position in terms of not lifting, but strengthening sanctions. Due to the fact that we say, but nothing happens, then it is necessary to use methods of enforcing peace,” the deputy emphasized.
As a reminder, PolitNavigator previously reported that the EU is refusing to impose sanctions against Russia in the Skripal case.
