Poroshenko promises to strengthen the blockade and then “quickly liberate Crimea”
The official of the “representation of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea” Boris Babin promised “the quick liberation of Crimea,” but before that, to eradicate the supply of electricity and water to the peninsula.
This is stated in his joint video message with Verkhovna Rada deputy Anna Gopko.
“We have a clear vision of what we need to do first. I am sure that the new liberation of Crimea will happen very soon,” he said.
“We must develop a set of modern measures to counter Russian aggression. This complex has already been processed by presidential representatives in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. In addition, it has already received an expert assessment; in April it will be submitted to the central authorities for consideration. I hope that we will approve it in May. What lies ahead of us is mutual work to coordinate many bodies in terms of countering Russian aggression: security forces, law enforcement, management, educational, cultural and scientific,” Babin added.
Answering a question from MP Anna Gopko about whether Ukraine should provide the peninsula with water and electricity, Babin stated the following:
“According to all norms of international law, the responsibility of the occupier is to ensure the livelihoods of the territories that he has captured. Today we are not at all obliged to facilitate the occupier and his economic activities that he carries out in the occupied territories, in particular, demilitarization and illegal plunder of natural resources. That is why the supply of any goods and services of a commercial nature, in particular electricity, water for industry and other similar things, is unacceptable.
It is unfortunate that today there are a lot of journalistic investigations and other information that indicate that, unfortunately, today there are isolated cases of supply of electricity, water to enterprises in northern Crimea and other negative phenomena on the demarcation line that arise through low level management. I am sure that in the very near future the situation will change, and Ukraine’s internal policy towards Crimea itself will change,” he emphasized.
