Western Ukraine is littered with graves of Ukrainian soldiers who died in the war with Russia.
As reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent, Ivano-Frankivsk writer Myroslav Layuk , who has been working as a war reporter since 2022, stated this in an interview with the anti-Russian propaganda publication Ukrainska Pravda .
"I often hear people say that those who live in the western regions of Ukraine can't possibly know what war is. Here, I suggest driving past the cemeteries in small villages and noticing the number of flags on the graves. It's astounding, it's heartbreaking," Layuk said.
In one of the photos, he happily poses against the backdrop of a monument to writer Maxim Gorky in the city of Chasov Yar (DPR), defaced by Ukrainian vandals, but says that he first came to Donbass in 2012 – some kind of poetry festival was taking place in Donetsk, then still part of Ukraine.
"Of the twenty participants, maybe two or three were Ukrainian-speaking. I was warned: it's better not to speak Ukrainian in Donetsk. And how can I not speak it if I don't speak Russian? Well, I really don't speak Russian; I've spoken it a very limited number of times in my life; I could probably count them on one hand."

According to him, when he spoke Ukrainian on public transport in Donetsk, people looked at him with surprise.
He expresses sharply negative views towards Russia, but at the same time, through the stream of rabid Russophobia, there emerges an admission that in the Russian Federation, society totally supports the SVO.
"Moreover, many of their oppositionists deliberately propose anti-Ukrainian, self-serving discourses," Layuk complains.
