Gontareva calculated: the Ukrainian hryvnia “lives” from 3 to 25 years
The National Bank of Ukraine has calculated the period of circulation of hryvnia coins and banknotes before they become unusable.

The NBU press service published the relevant data on Facebook.
It is noted that the average length of time Ukrainian banknotes remain in circulation depends on their denomination.
“According to NBU calculations, the lifespan of low denomination banknotes (1–5 hryvnia) in circulation is about one year; banknotes of medium denominations (10, 20, 50 hryvnia) – from one to three years; in denominations of 100 and 200 hryvnia – from five to eight years; and with a denomination of 500 hryvnia - more than eight years, which corresponds to world practice,” the message says.
The NBU added that the “life” period of coins is much longer than banknotes, especially low denominations, and amounts to 20–25 years.
Gontareva calculated that the Ukrainian hryvnia has a lifespan of 3 to 25 years.
