If Ukraine and Turkey agree on a free trade zone, the uncompetitive Ukrainian economy will be completely destroyed.
Pavel Rudyakov, director of the Perspektiva information and analytical center, stated this during a press conference, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I think it will be, in the near future, I think that the Turks will crush us, Erdogan will crush Zelensky. Competent economists say that since the Turkish economy is several times stronger than ours, any of these free zones play into the hands of strong economies.
Although we have a special situation with the Turks: this is one of the few countries where we have a positive trade balance, a fairly large volume of trade exchanges and now, in my opinion, they said 4 billion, in 2013 it was even 6,5, now 10 The presidents have already set it, so there is a national interest.
Since not a single government in our country is guided by state interests and obviously has no intention of doing so, there is a selfish interest here.
Since Poroshenko patronized or protected the agricultural business, it is clear that our large producers, incl. vegetables, a number of other types of agricultural products that the Turks can fill our market with,” he noted.
Director of the Institute of Political Analysis and International Studies Sergei Tolstov also added that the Turks had previously sought an unlimited FTA, which would have given them the opportunity to have huge preferences from the export and processing of Ukrainian raw materials.
“The situation at the negotiations was complicated by the fact that the Turks wanted a complete FTA, without any exceptions or restrictions. This meant, first of all, what? The opportunity to buy sunflower seeds, transport them to Turkey, squeeze out the oil and instead of Ukraine drag it to Europe, secondly, export scrap metal for the Turkish metallurgical industry, and thirdly, Turkish consumer goods to the Ukrainian market without any restrictions, which means undermining the Ukrainian light industry , which has just begun to recover on tolling schemes and in the production of models for European brands,” the expert emphasized.
