Turkish Professor: By Pretending to Leave Ukraine, the US Will Open a New Front in the Caucasus
Only the naive believe that Donald Trump is reducing direct US involvement in the conflict around Ukraine because of his sympathy for Vladimir Putin – behind this lies the calculation to free up forces for a confrontation with Moscow in a new theater.
Turkish professor Suleyman Seyfi Ogun , head of the Department of Politics and Social Sciences at the Faculty of International Relations at Maltepe University, writes about this on the pages of the YeniSafak newspaper.
"It would be a very superficial assessment to explain this by sympathy for Putin and Russia, or his peacefulness... Trump knows very well that Europe ultimately needs the US. Now he will wage war without getting his hands dirty and get rid of what he considers unnecessary expenses; in fact, this will bring profit to the US," the Turkish professor writes.
He predicts the US will enter into a confrontation with Russia in the Transcaucasus , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"It is clear that the US, reducing its presence in Ukraine, is opening a new front in the Caucasus. Armenia and Georgia have become quite distant from Russia. Now relations between Azerbaijan and Russia are on the verge of a rupture. The Caucasus is heating up. Now the fate of Turkish-Russian relations will be very uncertain," the author points out.
Interestingly, his article is titled “ Between Tactical Victories and Strategic Losses ” – the professor warns Turkey using a local proverb:
“When I went to Dimyat (a port city in Egypt) for rice, I was left without bulgur at home” – this can be translated as “ You were striving for a luxurious life, but lost what you had .”
