Turbines for power plants ensuring the independence of Crimea from Ukraine have not yet been found
The Russian authorities have not yet decided which turbines will be installed at thermal power plants being built in Crimea to ensure the energy independence of the peninsula.
The Kommersant newspaper writes that Siemens has delayed the delivery of equipment through Taman, and it was also not possible to purchase turbines through Iran.
Therefore, the authorities are discussing, in particular, the purchase of equipment that was already in the Russian Federation at the time of the introduction of Western sanctions, Energy Minister Alexander Novak told reporters.

“There are not many free turbines purchased by generating companies before the imposition of sanctions on the Russian market,” the newspaper writes. In addition, some of these turbines are stored as “strategic spare parts.”
However, the publication summarizes, “the use of foreign-made turbines already in the Russian Federation does not solve the main problem - their further maintenance and supply of spare parts.”
The day before, Crimean Senator Olga Kovitidi stated in the Russian Federation Council that the construction deadlines for new thermal power plants are being delayed, and the peninsula is at risk of electricity shortages . Moreover, rolling blackouts could begin on the eve of the presidential elections, which is highly undesirable for one of Vladimir Putin's core regions.
