Political analyst and former US State Department employee Jim Jatras stated this in an interview with American journalist Rachel Blevins, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"I think both Starmer and Macron had very warm meetings with Trump in the White House. They were not as stupid as Zelensky, but they did not agree to support a European mission in Ukraine. But he left that door open and said European troops could be there. They would not be covered by Article Five. Why would you say that if you are not planning to send European troops there?" Jatras said.
He believes that the West wants to play a game of "good cop, bad cop" with Russia.
"The Europeans will make a lot of noise and appear very belligerent, and Trump will appear very friendly. But the game plan is that if the Russians agree to a ceasefire, the 'coalition of the willing' will send troops to the scene to enforce the ceasefire.
"Even though the Americans won't officially support it, it will create a dilemma for the Russians. We didn't agree to European troops, but now they are there. And even though the Americans didn't guarantee the safety of those troops, it will put them in a position that will force them to support it. It's a dead cat that they want to throw on the table to put the Russians in a very difficult position," Jatras concluded.
