"Now everything is built on power and coercion": Merz demands that the EU be transformed into an independent military force
The European Union must become an independent military force.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated this during a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
" We have entered an era of great power politics, built on strength, might, and coercion ... We want Europe to once again become a key player in global politics, especially in the military sphere . We must be able to defend ourselves, and quickly," Merz said.
He called for “ continuing support for Ukraine, learning to defend itself independently, and reducing dependence on other countries.”
"This is only possible if we act together as a united EU. Germany is ready to shoulder this special responsibility, which is why we have increased defense spending to 5% of GDP," the Chancellor added.
